Master Food Volunteer Program

Tuesdays, April 23 – May 28th, 10 am – 3 pm

Do you enjoy cooking, learning about nutrition and health, or local food system work?

Are you a responsible person who likes to work with others? If so, the Extension Master Food Volunteer program may be a perfect opportunity! The 2024 application for this program is now open to Watauga and Caldwell residents. The application deadline is April 8th.

The Extension Master Food Volunteer program, modeled after the Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program, is designed to provide volunteers the opportunity to support Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) extension agents with food-related programming. Volunteers will receive a core curriculum of 30 hours of training which includes field trips, and will then assist the extension agent for 30 hours during their first year.

Food-related programming activities may include assisting with cooking classes, conducting food demonstrations in the community, serving on the community food-related boards, volunteering at donation stations, volunteering at the High Country food hub, teaching nutrition/gardening lessons at childcare centers, and others.

$90 fee for the class to cover expenses including food for demonstrations and field trips.
